It's been a long time. You're just as lovely as you used to be."
Lovelier, in fact, since I just spruced you up with the cover of issue #2 of the comic mini-series Mnemovore, which I find oddly compelling, despite the fact it hasn't started to make much sense yet. |

I mean that's what we're supposed to be focusing on, right? I mean forget that our joke of a president is throwing himself nine - count 'em, nine - balls this week instead of, I dunno, doing his job... the real news is that his wife had a makeover.
How long has it been since the 'news' covered actual, significant events? It did used to do that, didn't it? Didn't it?! |

| | None... thank goodness... if I hear another carol I'll burst | ] | *long-suffering sigh* Man am I glad that semester is over... It was probably my toughest semester yet at university... grades arrived... A-'s & a B+, which I can totally roll with... I earned those babies...
Ever since school let out, I've been doing hardly anything but stuff to get ready for Christmas & watching movies... & sometimes both at the same time...
I went to the theater for the first time in forever to see the Lemony Snicket movie... Could be worse, but I was still a little bummed... Jim Carrey is an excellent Olaf, just cartoonish enough & the child actors were pretty good, but the adaptation felt rushed... which I guess makes sense, as they were trying to cram in three episodes & tie things up neatly in case there is no sequel... also, the things I love most about the books (the sheer weirdness of Lemony Snicket's narration, the legion literary allusions, Sunny's language & all its puns, etc.) just don't come out as much or as well on screen...
Also rented Collateral & the Bourne sequel... very good, both...
Dipped into my own DVD collection to watch the Manchurian Candidate (no, not the recent Denzel Washington fiasco... *boo! hiss!* I've refused to see it on principle...)the old one... with Sinatra... The cool Cold War one... yeah, Communists make everything more fun... Man, do I dig that movie... it's one of those that hits every note... There's funny & scary & a little romance & a lot of creepy & oh, that ending! Its a beautiful, beautiful thing... Sinatra actually has great acting chops & they're all on display there...
Finally, I also watched The Last Man On Earth which is still rocking my socks days later... Vincent Price is cool & in this film, he fights against zombies... but not mindless, flesh-eating zombies... no SENTIENT blood-sucking zombies... It has one of those killer endings, too... I heart zombies! |

I've been remembering it & being creeped out off & on all day... |

Also received the graded copy of my big scary paper... thisclose to perfect! Yea me! I worked hard on that paper; this makes my month... also makes me worry slightly less about my final in that class.
Speaking of finals... I just found a legitimate reason to write about Lost in the final paper for my Soc class... how's that for a fan-girl? |

| | jubilant | ] | It is super-late... or early... I can't remember the last time I was awake & relatively coherent at this hour, but I don't want to go to bed yet, 'cause I am in the best mood...
You know those smart, literate, quick-witted people that TV characters always meet when they go away to school? After two years, I have finally met those people... the people I work with are fabulous... every one of them has the ability to make me laugh... often hysterically & helplessly & sometimes for days after whatever funny thing they've said... & the best thing about it is: "they like me; they really like me!"
We had a combination Christmas/pre-finals/goodbye to one of our elder statesmen party tonight... costume mandatory... after a couple of Guiness the three of us who feel their Irish heritage most strongly performed a few ballads for the rest of us, including 'Danny Boy'...
Some of us (the clique-within-a-clique... ooh, sinister...) discussed a slightly unsettling secret about one of the favorite profs & the messy divorce he's apparently going through...
We talked about a broad variety of topics... many of them borderline tasteless & I don't think I ever really stopped laughing all night... it went very late... There were massive quantities of liquor consumed, but everybody was okay to drive by the time we left... at the last party, everyone offered me a drink approximately once every 2.9 seconds, but this time around nobody was worried about me keeping up... I did take our lovely hostess up on a hard lemonade, which is nice because it's fizzy & doesn't taste or smell like beer... I passed on the guiness, because sadly it does taste like beer-squared...
I'm proud of Mom & Dad for not calling to check on me like I'm still in high school, even though they were probably starting to worry, since I practically never stay out late when I ever go anywhere...
I guess I should go to bed now, since I do have finals to worry about now... |

Finally saw the Spiderman sequel; I missed it in the theatres... I dug it... James Franco is so good at being broody... but, bless her heart, I don't think Mary-Jane Watson is prepared for the realities of being Spiderman's main squeeze... well, "realities" such as they are in a fictional comic book universe...
I love superherocomics... & sci-fi in general, for the things that they're able to say about us... things about what it means to be human, even if the characters you're dealing with technically aren't... |

I hadn't quite realized how stressed I've been about it until I finished & I'm so relieved I don't know what to do with myself... which is actually kinda bad, since I still have about three weeks until finals & need to stay on the ball...
Turkey Day was nice... lots of good food, & the relative who usually drives everyone bats wasn't bad this year... Of course, now that Thanksgiving is over, it's time to start dealing with Christmas... eek! I'm still a child in the family exchange... guess I'll have to get married off before that changes...
The Master Plan on Friday was that Sis & Gramma & us cousins would go see a movie, but when we arrived at the theatre, fifteen minutes before the show, they were shockingly sold out... Missed you Mandy! We could have done the 'I-told-ya-so!' dance...
Finally got the most recent 'Series of Unfortunate Events' book... kinda bummed, I didn't dig it as much as I did some of the earlier installments... Is it possible that at 20 I am finally outgrowing kid's lit? Nah! I'm wicked excited to see the movie; Jim Carrey should be great (or should that be 'terrible'?) as Count Olaf... |

I finally realized that I do know the kid, it's not that big a class after all... but until today he's always looked like Grizzly Adams (dressed up for a date): shaggy (but combed) hair, big thick (but trimmed) beard, so I totally didn't recognize him clean-shaven, with Clooney hair... Have been laughing at self all afternoon...
Time for dorky quiz of the moment:
You Are Sawyer. You're a realist, not an idealist. Sarcasm, wit, and leers run rampant whenever you are around. Whether it's making a racist remark or shooting a polar bear, you're sure to leave a lasting impression on those around you. Add a cigarette and some beard stubble, and the formula for redneck charm is complete.

Something is wrong... it's Halloween & I have yet to see 'Night of the Living Dead'! Halloween without zombies? Travesty!
Anyway, am using my study break to play with my journal & take silly quizzes... Sigh. That is probably one of the things you do most, lifeless one. You are usually dull and unanimated, and feel as if every day is a waste. You probably find no meaning in anything, and do not care about many things. You are most likely bored almost all the time, and people often find it hard to entertain you. Whatever it is that is in your system, get it out! There is no reason to feel that way. You should not be dead so quickly and while living. Enjoy yourself now, and look for things that could probably be meaningful and perhaps fun. You did take this quiz, so that means something, haha. Anyway, hopefully you have a Happy Halloween, Dreary One.
