Asiatic Lions [Dec. 20th, 2009|08:51 am]

purnicellin

Asiatic lions live in the wild in one place: a tiny forest in southern India. Interestingly, they used to be everywhere, lions that is, even France. Lion hunting as a sign of bravery did a lot to kill off lions, and also the cutting down of forests.

Lions are different from tigers in that they're not so good at adapting to living around people. Best at adapting to living around people are jaguars and leopards, although not necessarily in a good way. Whereas lions only attack and eat people at times of extreme famine and hardship, a leopard will run off with your child, and they're sneaky about it.

Here the biggest thing we've got is a bobcat, although there aren't many of those anymore.

Ron and I saw one at night in the Ozarks this summer, and that was probably the first time I've seen a bobcat. We do see coyotes fairly often, though.

There are rumors bobcats occasionally come around our neighborhood, but not so much since the city has built up so much in recent years.

I've always liked big cats, and have wondered about how people can live with these creatures in a synergistic way.

  • 10:06 Saw Avatar with son last night. It was beautiful, but the plot could have sat well enough in a Saturday morning cartoon for all its depth. #
  • 23:45 I think I might just finish Lint before Christmas. Yay? Sort of. #

  • 09:24 Updating Lint... very satisfying... must finish last page... #
  • 09:45 What is wrong with me that Avatar does not appeal to me? I'm just like, "meh, blue people." #

  • 08:42 @violinmuse Oooo, that new Harvest Moon sounds nice! I heart Harvest Moon, sigh. We're getting the Beatles Rock Band, too. #
  • 08:49 @andrael I'd say a cat=1/2 per child, so: children=x, cats=y, insanity=z. To calculate z: if 14x/100=z, y=x/2, and x=0, then 7y/100=z. #
  • 08:50 @andrael But that doesn't really take into account that with additional cats the amount of insanity increases exponentially. #
  • 09:21 I cried my brains out today hearing about a poor family the radio station helped out for Christmas. Waaaaaah! Charity is so sweet! #
  • 10:47 I have finished "The Various Shades of Fangline", but won't be posting the final two chapters until I finish my next Lint update... soon #
  • 10:58 Okay, everything is making me cry today... the trailer for Crazy Heart just made me totally tear up. #
  • 11:54 brain being spastic today. I can't focus on anything!!! #
  • 13:21 Hokay... time to move on now. Finishing these last two pages I continue to clutch like a security blanket. #
  • 15:54 Finally getting to infuse these beautiful Texas sunsets into my comic #
  • 20:23 This Christmas is making me giddy! #

  • 08:41 @andrael You might be partially insane! Ron and I were just discussing last night that I am at least 46% insane. (14% per child rule) #
  • 08:42 Oh no, my math is off. Make that 56%, which suddenly seems much more foreboding. #

  • 21:49 I liked Caprica, yes. Although I watched it while busy wrapping Christmas packages, so I'm not really sure. Seemed slow, but enjoyable. #
  • 23:37 Sigh, enjoying making comics again. #
  • 23:45 @purple_phoenix Thank you so much for that kind comment several days ago. Sadly, I just saw it, so I'm late to the chase :D #

  • 07:46 Okay, very displeased with what 5 years of comics has done to my posture, and will be spending the next year straightening it out properly.. #
  • 07:47 Having the hardest time making next-to-last page. Can't seem to get it right. #
  • 07:47 Last page is all planned out and will be easy, but next-to-last... not so much. It won't come out right. #
  • 07:48 Beyond that, having a really hard time making myself sit at my computer. Have realized I've grown to despise sitting at my computer #
  • 07:49 And it was only the love of Lint that kept me there... but still, I'm all whiny about sitting to make page #439, even though I love the art. #
  • 07:50 Thinking maybe I'll go live with art next... moving onto acrylics. Then again, maybe after a break I'll want to do more comics. #
  • 07:51 Simply don't know at this point. Really dislike the harshness of monitor light, though. #
  • 21:32 Whoa, things have slowed down enough, briefly, for me to feel like working on Lint. So I will, yays. #
